All children everywhere deserve the opportunity that is unlocked for them by education. Ann Cotton
Welcome to the Heyburn Elementary website!
Heyburn Elementary has approximately 40 staff and a student population of around 350 – 400. These enrollment numbers allow us to provide class sizes of about 21 students per teacher. We also have a highly qualified paraprofessional staff that can aid in the education of our students. The smaller class sizes, as well as additional trained staff, allows Heyburn to utilize RTI (Response to Intervention) practices as well the Title 1 program which provides our students one on one help, interventions, differentiation, and scaffolding to help all students find success.
The 2018-2019 school year promises to be another great year here at the Heyburn! We are expanding our Kindergarten to offer full day versus half day. This, we feel, will allow our entering students a great advantage and allow additional time to prepare them for the rigor that they will experience in the first grade. We also are adopting a new Social Studies curriculum this year that will bring new resources for our Idaho History in 4th grade, integrate our 5th grade curriculum with the Middle School History, and provide K – 3rd grades booklets that are based on current events.
Our school goals for 2018-2019 are to focus on improving our Math scores for all students by improving the number of students who are proficient by 5%. We also are revising our behavior plan to include parts of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports as well as possible Restorative Practice procedures in an effort to decrease overall behaviors that are disruptive to our learning environment. We have created a Health and Wellness committee that, in conjunction with a grant from Action for Healthy Kids, will look to address physical and mental health for our students.
Please take some time to explore our website. There is a great amount of useful information for parents like the calendar, menus, supply lists, handbooks, news/updates, schedules, etc. We do our best to keep it updated with the latest and greatest!
I would like to emphasize that my door is always open! If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or would just like to stop in to say hello, please feel free to drop by!
